Reba McEntire said “it’s been a very emotional day,” as she continues to process the tragic loss of director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. Rob and Michele were found dead in their California home on Sunday (December 14). They were 78 and 68, respectively.

McEntire, 70, admitted “it’s hard to be happy,” amid global tragedies, including at Bondi Beach in Australia, and at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, in addition to Rob and Michele’s deaths.

“It’s been a very emotional day,” McEntire said in an interview clip shared on Instagram by Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday (December 16). McEntire caught up with the entertainment news hub ahead of the live finale of The Voice on Monday evening (December 15). “And along with what happened in Australia, Brown University, Rob and his family, his lovely wife. It’s hard to be happy and energetic. All we can do is look back and lift all those people up and say, ‘thanks for being here with us, the time you were, and we learn from you, and we were so blessed to have you in our lives.’

“I remember him, getting to work with him on North, the movie that I did with him. He was so gracious to be a part of my video, ‘Does He Love You,’ with Linda Davis. And he was just so much fun, open, great director, great person. I just — his legacy is his work,” McEntire said when asked how she’ll remember the legendary director, and what she hopes his legacy is. “I sure will miss him. He was a great guy.”

Rob and Michele’s daughter, Romy Reiner, 28, reportedly found her parents on Sunday. Authorities arrested son Nick Reiner, 32, in connection with the deaths the following day. The Los Angeles Police Department stated in a news release on Monday that “it was determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide. The investigation further revealed that Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Robert and Michele Reiner, was responsible for their deaths.” Nick Reiner is “in custody with no bail,” according to police.

McEntire said in a tribute on Instagram on Monday that she “enjoyed every minute I was around Rob Reiner. He was one of a kind. I got to work with him on the movie North and he also helped us with our ending of my video, ‘Does He Love You.’ I sure will miss him. What a gift he was to this world. Rest in peace, my friend.”
