Laughs where in short supply for most of Ricky Gervais opening monologue on the Golden Globes but it's only because the Hollywood elite where getting crushed by his jokes. It was hilarious to watch. He claimed this was the last year that he will host the awards so he was going to go all in with his jokes because "He doesn't care anymore".
He did just that by destroying the egos of most of the room. He started in by saying "I came here in a limo tonight with a license plate made by Felicity Huffman". Which started the awkward groans in the room. Then he got real deep by saying the elite industry actors, directors, and film exectutives "all have one thing in common tonight, they are all afraid of Ronan Farrow". He's the journalist known for breaking stories about some Hollywood elite's sexual abuse scandals like Harvey Weinstein. He even worked in an "Epstein didn't kill himself" joke followed by "I know he's your friend but I don't care". The ultimate slam came as he wrapped up his monologue and said "If you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech.... you know nothing about the real world. Come up, accept your little award. Thank your agent and your God and then F**k off."
BOOM! Put Hollywood in their place amazingly.
