Tasty barbecue doesn't have to be limited to regions with famous takes on the cuisine, like smoked Texas-style brisket or Memphis' take on flavorful ribs, it can be found anywhere in the country.

According to a list compiled by Cheapism of the eateries serving up the best "bucket-list barbecue" in every state, the top spot for must-try barbecue in North Carolina is Skylight Inn BBQ, a popular restaurant in Ayden. Skylight Inn BBQ, located at 4618 Lee Street, has a Google rating of 4.7 stars and nearly 2,000 reviews.

Here's what the site had to say about this tasty BBQ restaurant:

"There are two styles of barbecue in North Carolina, and Skylight Inn is a follower of the Eastern style. Whole hog is king here. It's smoked overnight in brick pits, then chopped and seasoned with hot sauce and cider vinegar before the crisp cracklings are added to the mix. It's served no-frills with a slab of thin, dense cornbread and a pile of coleslaw. It's simple and classic."
