Kenny Chesney reveals the unexpected way he tried to land dates while he was in school.
The country megastar caught up with Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday morning (June 17), and reflected on what he remembers from his time in school, particularly after receiving an honorary doctorate degree from his alma mater, East Tennessee State University, in 2022. Chesney said he majored in marketing and advertising when he attended the university, located in Johnson City, Tennessee; however, he proved to Clarkson that he also had a knack for math.
“I remember certain things from school. I used to try to impress girls by quoting different formulas. Like, mathematical formulas,” Chesney said. He immediately recognized the quadratic formula at a glance when it appeared behind him on screen, and recite the equation from memory. He said it “was burned into my head in high school by my math teacher, Joe Hollander.”
When Clarkson asked how many dates Chesney got from reciting math equations from memory, he admitted, “not as many as my guitar did.”
Chesney — who said he jokingly insisted his bandmates call him “Dr. Chesney,” after receiving his honorary doctorate degree — is in the midst of his headlining “Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour” with special guests Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker.
