A wedding anniversary is always a special reminder of one of the happiest days of someone's life. One couple in North Carolina, however, has another reason to celebrate after scoring a big Fast Play lottery win earlier this year.
Sadhana Patel, of New Bern, was celebrating her 20th wedding anniversary on January 16 when she decided to try her luck with a lottery ticket, Fox 8 reports. She purchased a $5 Rockin' Bingo ticket from U Pick Food Mart on Neuse Boulevard, the store she owns, and was shocked to find that she hit the jackpot.
She immediately called her children and husband to share the happy news.
"I said, 'I feel like I got something good, so let me scan it,'" she said. "I realized it said take it to the lottery. Then I realized, 'I think I hit the jackpot.'"
According to Fox 8, the odds of winning the Fast Play jackpot are 1 in 240,000. Patel's ticket meant she got 50% of the jackpot amount, totaling $373,741. After taxes, she was able to take home $264,423. Patel plans to use her earnings to pay off bills, the news outlet reports, as well as share with her family.
