Local area Georgia Schools have come up with revised plans for schools re-opening. Some will continue at home learning until 2021, Gwinnett County just announced in person learning, but delay start date and have new COVID-19 policies.
With rising numbers in Georgia, schools have had to go back to the drawing board for re-opening in the Fall. It's of high importance to keep the students and staff safe during the global pandemic that is affecting so many. Gwinnett pushed back their opening a couple weeks to Aug 12th now for in-person learning, and they will require face covering for all students and staff.
Atlanta's Fox 5 reported that Gwinnett County Public Schools CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks said the delayed start will ensure all students, parents, faculty, and staff are familiar with the plan for the coming year as Georgia’s largest school district works to chart a new normal amid the coronavirus pandemic. Wilbanks stated, “In making these decisions, the board and school district staff did their due diligence and reviewed all relevant information concerning our people’s health, safety, and educational needs."
There is a digital learning option for parents who don't feel safe for their students to return or can't follow the mask policy. They are allowing anyone with known health related issues affected by a mask, to attend without a face covering.
The schools will do a virtual "Meet the teacher" and orientation to prep all students for Back to School, including the ones who will opt for the full digital learning.
The Gwinnett Board also cancelled all July graduation ceremonies for local schools.
“Ultimately, we made our decisions based on what we believe is in the overall best interest of the district’s students, families, and staff. In the weeks to come, we will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in Gwinnett County and, if necessary, will revise our plans as conditions warrant,” Wilbanks told Fox 5.
