Scotty McCreery Gives Surprise Performance at iHeartCountry Festival

Scotty McCreery

It's been an exciting year for Scotty McCreery to say the least. The country singer/songwriter released his fourth studio album Seasons Change, he got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, and this weekend (May 5th), he surprised the crowd at the 2018 iHeartCountry Festival with a special performance.

Scotty walked on on stage to surprise fans at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas where he performed his new single "Five More Minutes."

The North Carolina native dropped a huge hint when he tweeted that he was heading to Austin. He wrote, "Heading down to Austin this weekend. Maybe I’ll check out the #iHeartCountry Festival while I’m there. Who's going?"

"Five More Minutes" is a very special song for Scotty and even named it his "favorite song [he's] ever written." During an interview with iHeartRadio, McCreery explained:

"I'll never forget writing 'Five More Minutes' with Frank and Monty, and being in that room, and we all kind of felt that we had something special that day. But then going to Ocean West Studios and cutting the rest of the songs that day with Frank, and Aaron [Eshuis], and Derek, and the whole band, it just felt good. It felt different than any record I've made. All the songs were coming together and I just really was a lot more in control because I wrote all these songs and knew how they wanted to sound. So, those two moments, writing 'Five More Minutes' and being in that studio the first day are something I'll never forget."

Hosted by Bobby Bones and Candace Cameron Bure, this year's iHeartCountry Festival included performances from superstar country artists including Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Dustin Lynch, Cole Swindell, Maren Morris, Sugarland, Luke Combs, Billy Currington, Dan + Shay, Jon Pardi and Brett Young

Country fans will be able to relive the best moments from the show during a special TV broadcast on Sunday, August 5th at 8pm ET/PT on FOX. The two-hour show will showcase never-before-seen collaborations, behind-the-scenes interviews with the artists, as well as guest appearances by Gavin DeGraw, Jana Kramer, Sam Palladio, Josh Henderson, Danielle Bradbery, Ryan Hurd and cast members from FOX’s hit drama, THE GIFTED.
