Wendy Williams is being dragged (again) for making insensitive remarks on her talk show. Days after being slammed by the LGBTQ community following last weekâs episode of The Wendy Williams Show, the talk show host is now under fire for seemingly making light of the tragic death of Amie Harwick.
On Saturday (February 15), Harwick â a celebrity sex and family therapist once engaged to Drew Carey â died after she allegedly fell to her death from the balcony of her third-story apartment after being attacked, presumably by her ex-boyfriend, who has been arrested as a suspect of her murder. Williams apparently used the tragedy as comic material for Mondayâs show.Â
Williams started by explaining how Harwick had been âpushed to her death,â clarifying, ânot by Drew, but by the ex.â Thatâs when she appeared to quip the catchphrase from Price is Right (which Carey hosts), âCome on down,â before turning her face as if watching someone falling from the sky. The audience was silent, Twitter was not.Â
âShe was pushed. It was a domestic violence incident. Wendy Williams is mocking femicide. She needs to be fired ASAP,â one user tweeted. Another called for Williams to be âcancelled,â writing, âHow can you allow such utter trash? Making jokes about a murdered woman? Your effing canceled. I will never watch that show ever again.â
Sadly, this isnât the first time something Williams has said has caused an uproar on social media this year. Last month, upwards of 30,000 people signed a petition to have her fired after her cleft lip joke toward Joaquin Phoenix. She also drew ire from the LGBTQ community after telling gay men to âstop wearing our skirts and heelsâ on last weekâs broadcast.
