Luke Combs Reveals He Originally Wanted To Be A Homicide Detective

Luke Combs is gearing up for the release of his sophomore album, What You See Is What You Get on Friday, November 8.

On Monday's Jimmy Kimmel Live! the country singer talked about the upcoming record, his new Croc line and his original career path. Combs, who dropped out of college to pursue singing, revealed he originally wanted to be a homicide detective.

“People are pretty surprised by that a lot of the times. But if you’ve noticed, I don’t actually have the physical build of a police officer,” he says to Kimmel. “It’s a puzzle that has no pieces, so you make the pieces and have to put them together and that’s what I love so much about making music.”

With the release of his upcoming new album later this week, Combs reflected on his journey in country music from the very beginning. At one point Combs was working two jobs, one of them being a bouncer at a bar, where he later started playing shows.

"I charged a dollar a ticket and made $200," Combs shares adding, "that was more money than I made at both of my jobs that week."

Combs plans to return to college for his first ever headlining stadium show at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina on May 2, 2020. "Beyond thankful that I'll get to play my 1st ever stadium show at App State, a place that means so much to me." he says.

What You See Is What You Get is due out the end of this week. The singer has already released a handful of songs featured on the new project, most recently sharing the album's title track, "What You See Is What You Get." The new project includes a highly anticipated duet with Eric Church on "Does It To Me" along with the previously released collaboration with Brooks & Dunn on "1,2 Many."
