Mike Trout signs 12-year deal worth $430 million

The Los Angeles Angels and center fielder Mike Trout are reportedly close to finalizing a 12-year deal worth more than $430 million, making it the largest contract in professional sports, ESPN reported Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Trout, is a six-time winner of the Silver Slugger award and has twice received the AL's MVP (in 2014 and 2016.). The seven-time All Star has played with the Angels since making his major league debut in 2011 at just 19. Trout was due to be a free agent after the 2020 season, but the Angels adding the ten-year extension to his $144 million contract.

Widely considered one of the best players of his generation, Trout's mega-deal with the Angels would also mean he beats Zack Geinke's baseball record average of making $34.4 million per year.

The deal would blow away previous record holders including, Canelo Álvarez, who signed a five-year contract with DAZN worth $365 million and be $100 million more than right fielder Bryce Harper, who recently signed with the Philadelphia Phillies for a 13-year deal worth $330 million.
